Spenser Confidential is a 2020 American mystery comedy-thriller film directed by Peter Berg and with a screenplay by Sean O’Keefe and Brian Helgeland. It is very loosely based on the novel Wonderland by Ace Atkins, and uses the names of characters created by Robert B. Parker. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Winston Duke, Alan Arkin, Iliza Shlesinger, Bokeem Woodbine, Cassie Ventura, Donald Cerrone, and introducing Austin Post and marks the fifth collaboration between Wahlberg and Berg after Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, Patriots Day, and Mile 22.

Spenser Confidential – Storyline:

Spenser (Mark Wahlberg) – an ex-cop better known for creating trouble than solving it – just got out of prison and is leaving Boston permanently . But first he gets roped into helping his old boxing coach and mentor, Henry (Alan Arkin), with a promising amateur. That’s Hawk (Winston Duke), a brash, no-nonsense MMA fighter convinced he’ll be a tougher opponent than Spenser ever was. When two of Spenser’s former colleagues happen murdered, he recruits Hawk and his foul-mouthed ex-girlfriend, Cissy (Iliza Shlesinger), to assist him investigate and convey the culprits to justice. From director Peter Berg, SPENSER CONFIDENTIAL is an action-comedy co-starring Bokeem Woodbine, Marc Maron and Austin Post. Inspired by Robert B. Parker’s Wonderland, a best-selling novel by Ace Atkins.

Oh boy. Youve seen THIS before. i’ll be biased though because i prefer Mark Wahlberg. Boston this Boston that…typical big city you’ll only love if you’ve got enough money to maneuver out of the gutter…..oh…the MOVIE. Besides Mark…theres a scene where hes chasing a car on foot and runs into a dog. Very funny. Id watch the movie again to ascertain that scene. This movie is ok. Incidents happen with an excessive amount of convenience…clues laying around like trash in Boston…criminals happen to cross paths with good guys…what am I saying? Theres no intrigue…the plot is BEYOND predictable…if crimes were solved this easily everyone could just stay home and things would fix themselves. Worth a 1 time watch.
